The short answer
We price every tree once we know it. As a guide, published Bendigo set prices are: a flat $950 for a small tree up to 5 m, from $1,400 for a medium tree, from $2,800 for a large tree and from $5,200 for trees over 20 m, plus GST where it applies. The things that move the price most are the tree's height, what it sits over, how we get to it, and whether the stump and green waste go too.
Tree removal cost by size in Bendigo
Few Bendigo tree businesses publish their prices, because every tree is different; we quote after seeing it. One that does publishes these set prices, which it says cover taking the tree down to a low stump and clearing the debris.

Set prices published by one Bendigo tree service, "plus GST where it applies", checked 27 September 2026. They cover taking the tree down to a low stump and clearing the debris. On the medium and larger bands the price rises for a back yard, hand-carry access and each structure or line the tree sits over; stump grinding is priced separately. Your own price is confirmed in writing before work starts.
Its small-tree price is a flat minimum call-out, so extra access or overhang doesn't move it. From the medium band up, the price rises for a back yard rather than a front yard, for access where everything has to be carried out by hand, and for each structure or line the tree sits over.

What pushes the price up
Height and spread
Taller trees need climbing and rigging instead of straight felling, and more of the tree to cut up and chip. A big old gum with a wide canopy can take a crew most of a day.
What the tree sits over
A tree over the house, a shed, a pool, the fence or the neighbour's yard has to come down in pieces, each one lowered on a rope. Every structure or line underneath adds time and risk.
Access
Front yards with room for a truck and chipper are cheapest. A back yard reached by a narrow side path, or steps that stop a mini loader, means carrying everything out by hand. Measure the narrowest point and say so in your request.
Powerlines
Powercor manages trees around its own powerlines at no cost to you. But if you want to remove a tree within Powercor's Tree No Go Zone, it says you submit a request and it quotes the work, and it's your responsibility to get any council permit first. Mention any lines in your request.
The stump
Stump grinding is usually a separate price. A national guide puts it at an extra $100 to $400 depending on size and access. See stump grinding costs.
Green waste
Chips and logs left on site cost less than having everything taken away. If you take the waste yourself, the City of Greater Bendigo accepts domestic green waste free at Eaglehawk Landfill, up to a 6 x 4 caged trailer, but charges for loads with stumps or branches over 200 mm thick. Burning garden waste is banned year round in Greater Bendigo.
Permits and after-hours work
If your tree needs a planning permit, the application fee is on top. Council's 2026–27 schedule lists VicSmart applications from $233.10; confirm which fee applies with council. And a national cost guide says emergency tree removal typically costs 50 to 100 per cent more than standard removal.

If someone knocks on your door and you agree to work over $100, or where the value can't be worked out on the day, Consumer Affairs Victoria says you have 10 business days to cancel without penalty, and the business can't do the work or take payment in that time.

Why does a tree over the house cost more?
A tree that can't be dropped in one piece has to be climbed or reached from a platform and taken down in sections, with each piece lowered on ropes. That takes more people, more gear and more time. The Bendigo set prices go up for each structure or line the tree sits over.
Does emergency tree removal cost more?
Usually. A national cost guide says emergency tree removal typically costs 50 to 100 per cent more than standard removal. If the tree is down but no longer dangerous, it can be cheaper to make it safe and book the clean-up in business hours.
